Is your Wi-Fi safe? Pakistan IT Board warns

The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has alerted the public to the cybersecurity risks associated with Wi-Fi networks in light of the recent increase in hacking attempts.

In its advisory, NITB has asked organizations to immediately improve the security of their wireless networks as risks are increasing due to default security settings and low user awareness.

The advisory states that if router settings are left at default, unauthorized individuals can access the network and install malware. In addition, users can also leak their sensitive information online.

To mitigate these risks, NITB has said that strong usernames and passwords should be used when accessing routers. Organizations have also been directed to adopt the WPA3 security protocol to improve network security and make it difficult to hack.

Officials also urged regular updates of Wi-Fi network settings and hiding the network name to prevent unauthorized connections. They also said that organizations should follow cybersecurity best practices to keep sensitive data safe and prevent cyber attacks.
