ChatGPT is seeing record growth after releasing a new AI image generation feature, according to Sam Altman, head of OpenAI.

The AI ​​assistant (now available to free users of the app) is adding 1 million new users in an hour amid ‘biblical demand’ for its GPT-4O.

"The launch of ChatGPT 26 months ago was one of the most awesome viral moments, and we added 1 million users in five days. We added 1 million users in an hour," Altman wrote in a post on X on Monday.

OpenAI said it designed ChatGPT's latest feature to be 'not only beautiful but useful', allowing people to create highly detailed images as well as logos and photos.

“GPT4O Image Generation is adept at accurately representing text, following gestures, and taking advantage of 4O’s underlying knowledge base and chat context – including transforming uploaded images or using them as visual cues,” said a blog post from OpenAI.
